VORN Design Academy starts new round of seminars

Focus on Inclusive Fashion and Digital Fit (SIZE), Deadline: 20th May, 2026

Zalando and VORN – The Berlin Fashion Hub have announced the Call for Applications for the fifth edition of the Design Academy SIZE. The free training programme is aimed at fashion designers from across Europe and focuses on a core issue of the fashion industry that is still often overlooked: size, fit and digital grading. Applications can be submitted from 13 April to 20 May 2026.

Moving Beyond the “Standard Body”

For decades, the fashion industry has relied on so-called standard sizing – reference models that fail to reflect the diversity of real human bodies. Design Academy SIZE explicitly challenges this approach and promotes inclusive fashion concepts that better represent body diversity. This year’s programme places a strong emphasis on digital grading, the mathematical process of scaling garments accurately across a wide range of sizes.

Digital Tools for a More Sustainable Fashion Industry

A central element of the academy is working with CLO 3D garment design software. Participants learn how to use digital avatars representing different body types in order to identify fit issues early and optimise designs across multiple sizes. This digital development process reduces the need for physical prototypes, saves material and helps minimise returns caused by poor fit – making a tangible contribution to sustainability in fashion.

All participants receive free access to CLO software throughout the duration of the programme, along with comprehensive training ranging from the basics of 3D garment design to in-depth sessions on digital grading.

Mentoring, Networks and Industry Insight

Beyond technical skills, Design Academy SIZE offers a holistic learning experience supported by mentors from the fields of fashion design, sustainability, digital pattern making and business development. Participants become part of an inspiring European network of creatives who collaborate, exchange knowledge and build long-term professional connections.

The programme also facilitates contact with industry partners and media, increasing visibility for new and inclusive design approaches. The guiding principle of the academy captures its mission clearly: “The future belongs to every body.”

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants include freelance fashion designers, designers working for emerging or established brands, as well as post‑graduates based in Europe. Accessory brands are excluded. Prior experience with CLO is an advantage but not required. A total of 100 places are available.
