celeberating 10 years of musical exchanges: From Berlin to LA

Since 2016, From Berlin to LA has been building bridges between two vibrant creative communities. It all started with a multi-venue festival in Los Angeles, followed by a second edition in 2017 and the co-organization of the 50th anniversary of Berlin and LA’s sister city partnership later that year. In 2018, the project joined the opening festival of Deutschlandjahr / Wunderbar Together, the official USA-Germany friendship program, with From Germany to LA.

In 2019, the exchange expanded to Detroit with a series of events. During the pandemic, the project continued online through EXP__, a compilation, and the LA x Berlin soundpack. After returning to in-person programming in 2023–24 with workshops, From Berlin to LA now celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2025–26 with a new program in partnership with dublab, the Consulate General of Germany Los Angeles, KCRW, Orchestral Tools, Seahorse Sound Studios, and The Black Lodge.

The kick-off: A special Berlin x LA radio show by longtime LA collaborator Zernell Gillie (Grimy Edits) on NTS, featuring tracks by Anna Cavazos, Elisa Elisa, Kim Anh, Local Suicide, Nerkkirn, and more.

Next up: On December 8, the LA x Berlin Improv’ begins at Orchestral Tools Studio in Berlin with Eric D. Clark and Portrait XO. The series continues in Los Angeles on December 18 at Handbag Factory, featuring Conscious Summary (Samur Khouja), Häana, Harp Impressions (Caroline Campbell), Heare (El Larson), and DJs Dex (Underground Resistance) and Kosmik (The Black Lodge).

More content, streams, and updates will be available soon on dublab and other platforms.
All sessions are free to attend. Sign-up and RSVP links coming shortly here.
