From 14 to 20 February, Berlin Partner is taking over the German Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai. During this time, Berlin will present itself to visitors and decision-makers from all over the world as an innovative and creative place to live and work. At the same time, Berlin Partner is organising a delegation trip to the United Arab Emirates with a total of 14 start-ups and 24 founders. During the trip, participants will get the chance to attend networking events, visit Expo 2020, pitch at Startupnight and visit industry-relevant companies on site; they will have the unique opportunity to meet companies, investors, potential business partners and customers from Dubai in person.
Stephan Schwarz, Senator for Economics, Energy and Enterprises: "I am delighted that we finally have the opportunity again to present ourselves internationally as a top business location. I know from my own experience how valuable it is for entrepreneurs to exchange ideas in person and to get to know other perspectives. In addition, Expo 2020 is a great opportunity for Berlin start-ups to present their business ideas in the fields of health IT, fintech and smart city."
Dr. Stefan Franzke, Managing Director of Berlin Partner: "After two extraordinarily challenging years, we can finally promote Berlin as a business location and a place of longing again - face to face. With digital solutions, we have succeeded well in cultivating our numerous and diverse contacts around the world. Now we want to make new contacts again. The best way to do that is on site, in personal encounters, in joint exchange. Berlin has never really been away; but it's nice to be back to show what makes us tick with our partners: diversity, openness and unusualness, people and companies, creatives and technicians, loud and quiet."
Expo 2020 will be held in Dubai from 1 October 2021 to 31 March 2022 due to the pandemic. During the 181 days of the World Expo, innovations will be presented, ideas will be shared and cooperation between nations will be promoted to address and exchange ideas on the challenges of the present. Berlin's appearance will be under the motto: "Berlin is open for Business, Talents, Startups, Music, Sports and Games". The varied cultural programme with numerous sessions, performances, shows and concerts is divided into categories from Gaming to Moving and Creative to Jamming. In addition, the German Pavilion will provide space for international entrepreneurs and artists during the Berlin Week.
14 Berlin start-ups will also use Expo 2020 to present their business ideas in the fields of Health IT, Fintech and Smart City in the United Arab Emirates. During the delegation trip, for which more than 50 start-ups applied, there will be - among other things - the opportunity to participate in a pitch competition at CAMPUS GERMANY and the chance to present the business idea to a jury of business representatives from Dubai and Berlin. The jury members also include Abdul Baset Al Janahi (Managing Director of Dubai SME), Stefan Franzke (Managing Director of Berlin Partner) and Cem Ergün-Müller (founder of Startupnight).
After the delegation trip to Dubai, the start-ups will be given the opportunity to meet interesting and relevant business partners in Doha via a digital B2Match platform and explore their internationalisation opportunities on site. The originally planned personal journey had to be cancelled due to the strict quarantine regulations in Doha.
